The agent alternates iteratively between a reasoning step and a tool call until the goal is achieved. It observes the result of the action and derives the next step from it. Typical conditions for use: The task requires tool use and the exact path cannot be planned in advance; The agent must react adaptively to tool results. The central trade-off: High adapt…

What organizes, connects, or makes decisions possible.
The ReAct pattern links step-by-step reasoning with actions and observations so an agent can adapt while completing a task.
ReAct means Reasoning and Acting. It describes language-model agents that iterate between task reasoning, tool calls, and the resulting observations.
The agent proposes a next step, executes an action, reads its result, and revises the plan. This lets it respond to unknown state instead of fixing the entire workflow in advance. Observations need reliable, bounded inputs; the pattern itself guarantees neither correct reasoning nor safe actions.
The agent states which subgoal and next step follow from the current context.
A tool call or operation queries or changes the relevant state.
The action result becomes context for the next decision.
ReAct helps with tool-using tasks whose state cannot be fully planned in advance. It needs permission boundaries, stopping rules, and checks for critical results.
